LLCD Seawalls · Carteret County

Heavy-duty seawalls, custom docks & shoreline stabilization across Eastern NC — serving Carteret County and the surrounding area.

Carteret County is the first saltwater county in our service area, and the work here starts from different assumptions than a Neuse River dock or a Wayne County pond. Bogue Sound runs along the county's mainland shore from Cape Carteret and Cedar Point past Morehead City to the Newport River, with Bogue Banks — Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Salter Path, Indian Beach, and Emerald Isle — forming the barrier island on the far side. Tidal saltwater changes the frame from the start: every structure has to be sized to a real tide range and to wave and storm exposure the inland counties in our service area don't see, not just to a seasonal high or low water line.

East of Morehead City, Beaufort sits on Back Sound, with Harkers Island and the Down East communities — the small waterfront villages strung along Core Sound — making up the eastern half of the county. The North River cuts through the marsh east of Beaufort on the way toward Down East and Core Sound, and the Intracoastal Waterway threads the length of Bogue Sound and on toward Morehead City's working waterfront. It's a wide range of water in one county: sound-front lots with real fetch and boat wake, marsh-edge creek frontage, and the White Oak River's edge near Cedar Point on the county's western line.

Saltwater and brackish water bring problems freshwater sites don't. Marine borers attack untreated wood in a way a Neuse River piling never has to withstand, tidal range affects how a dock or bulkhead has to be designed from footing to freeboard, and open-sound or ocean-facing sites carry real storm and wave exposure. Material choice, piling depth, and structure design all follow from that, worked out site by site rather than assumed from a standard inland design.

What we see in Carteret County

Waterfront in Carteret County covers a wider range of conditions than any inland county we serve. Sound-front and Intracoastal-adjacent lots around Morehead City, Cape Carteret, and Emerald Isle face real current, boat wake, and open-water fetch, calling for sturdier bulkhead and dock design than a sheltered creek needs. Beaufort and the Down East communities along Core Sound tend toward marsh-edge and tidal-creek frontage, where soft banks change how a bulkhead or dock footing gets set. Barrier-island property on Bogue Banks — Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Salter Path, Indian Beach, and Emerald Isle — adds direct exposure to open water and storm conditions the inland counties never face. Saltwater also makes marine borers a real consideration for untreated wood in a way they simply aren't upriver, and coastal development permitting is handled as part of the project scope rather than assumed to work the way it does inland.

What clients say

We had Lonnie add a great boardwalk to our place while he restructured our retaining wall. It presented great challenges, as there were several old growth pines with extensive roots to deal with. Lonnie and his crew powered thru to make it happen and it was a great success. The results are awesome and the lake edge maintenance is much easier now. Great job and awesome guy. The Whitleys.

We contacted Lonnie because our seawall was failing and our dock needed updating. he came out quick to give us a quote that exceeded our expectations and let us know exactly what was needed for us to have an enjoyable space. He was super easy to communicate with and was more than willing to work with us when we had a last minute request to add to our dock. We highly recommend using LLCD. I promise you that you will not be disappointed in the excellent work that he does.

LLCD did a great job on our pier and boat shelter. They showed up when promised, despite uncooperative weather, and finished the job on time. We’re very happy with the results and highly recommend them!
