Kinston sits directly on the Neuse River, and that river is the center of Lenoir County's waterfront — wider and calmer on an ordinary day than up in Wayne County, but capable of real flood-stage swings after heavy rain upstream, which is something every structure on it has to be built to handle, not just the everyday line.
Contentnea Creek reaches the edge of the county too, joining the main river a few miles from Grifton near the Pitt County line, and gives Lenoir a quieter stretch of water alongside the bigger one. Inland, La Grange, Pink Hill, and Deep Run sit away from the river itself and tend to bring us farm pond and small-creek jobs rather than river-frontage work.
Because the water through Kinston can rise significantly after a wet stretch upstream, we design river-frontage structures here around that swing rather than a typical dry-season line — the difference matters more in Lenoir County than almost anywhere else we work.

What we see in Lenoir County
River-frontage property through Kinston sees the Neuse at its widest and most flood-prone stretch in our service area, and older bulkheads and seawalls built years ago were often sized for a calmer line than the river actually delivers after a heavy rain event upstream. That makes reinforcement and repair a bigger share of the work here than new construction. Away from the river, Contentnea Creek frontage near the Pitt County line is a gentler site, and further inland toward La Grange, Pink Hill, and Deep Run, most of what we see is farm pond work with a spillway deck or small bulkhead rather than anything sized for river current.Services
